December: Pete Seeger
Our December Musician of the Month was Pete Seeger!
Pete played the banjo, and everywhere he went he wanted people to sing along with him. Even though he didn’t write the song “This Land is Your Land” by Woody Guthrie, Pete is the one that popularized it. Many classes read “The Golden Thread” by Colin Meloy, and Kindergarteners read Seeger’s story song “Abiyoyo”. As we prepared for Martin Luther King Day in January, we sang “We Shall Overcome”, another important song Pete Seeger helped to spread. Check out the awesome videos below and sing along!
