Grade 3 Library Media Learning Expectations
Third grade students will build on skills learned in previous years. In addition, third grade students will develop the ability to:
- Develop strategies for selecting books for classroom assignments and for recreational reading
- Identify various literary genres
- Understand that nonfiction books are arranged by the Dewey Decimal System and that nonfiction books are located on the shelf by subject area
- Search the online catalog by author, title and subject, and find books in the library by call number
- Use print and electronic reference sources to locate basic factual information
- Develop basic research skills extract and classify facts group facts by main ideas use keywords in the development of searching techniques
- Digital Citizenship
- Understand the concept of cyberspace as an online global community
- Identify and protect personal and private information
- Apply the concepts of digital etiquette
- Recognize acts of cyberbullying and how to react responsibly
- Media Literacy Recognize print and electronic forms of media and their pervasive influences
- Begin to understand the objectives of media messages
- Recognize advertising techniques of persuasion
