Grade 2 Library Media Learning Expectations
In Grade 2, students will build upon skills learned in previous years and will develop the ability to:
- Understand differences between picture books, chapter books, folk tales, nonfiction books and biographies
- Select books for recreational reading that are of interest and of the appropriate reading level
- Identify all parts of a book including the title page, copyright date, table of contents, glossary, index, and bibliography
- Use the table of contents and index to locate information in a book
- Understand the general arrangement of the library, including the location of the fiction, nonfiction and reference sections
- Understand that the online catalog may be used for finding books within the library
- Develop skills in alphabetizing and number order
- Use reference books, electronic resources and the Internet to locate simple facts
- Work from bookmarked Internet sites
- Gain experience using print and non-print encyclopedias
- Reinforce Digital Citizenship topics such as Online Safety and Digital Etiquette
