Chalk drawn messages of praise on the concrete at the main entrance greeted teachers when they arrived at school Monday morning in recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week in Massachusetts. The week began with a Staff Breakfast that I provided before school on Monday. Over the course of the week, many individual students presented their teachers with a special card expressing their gratitude. I certainly feel that Willard teachers deserve recognition for their dedication to student learning and their focus on the overall well being of their students. Tomorrow, the PTG Staff Appreciation Committee will treat the staff to a luncheon. I think that is’ safe to say that teachers at Willard feel appreciation!

This week all ELA MCAS testing was completed. We now shift our testing focus to Math MCAS. Grade 3 students will be testing today and tomorrow. Grade 4 and grade 5 students will participate next week (May 9 – May 12). MCAS Science testing for grade 5 is scheduled for May 17 – 18. The Science, Technology & Engineering MCAS test is not available as an online test. The Science MCAS is a paper and pencil test.

Many parents may have noticed recent news reports related to water testing in Massachusetts schools revealing higher than acceptable levels of lead in the drinking waiter. I want to reassure all Willard families that the water supply at Willard is tested routinely. Our water in all the locations in the building has passed all testing and is rated acceptable.

In addition, please mark your calendars for an opportunity to participate in the following
